TL;DR: This is a powerful card that gives you 1.5% cash back, and also allows you to dip your toes into the travel rewards game. Furthermore, this card also offers a basic suite of benefits such as purchase protection and extended warranty. Not bad for a card with no annual fee.

Introduction

What the Chase Freedom Unlimited is all about

This is a powerful card that gives you 1.5% cash back, and also allows you to dip your toes into the travel rewards game – as long as you have another credit card that is part of the Chase Ultimate Rewards program such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

Furthermore, this card also offers a basic suite of benefits such as purchase protection and extended warranty. Not bad for a card with no annual fee.

How to Earn Cash Back

Chase Freedom Unlimited Earn Rates

The beauty of a cash back credit card is that the rewards are simple, and easily quantifiable since you’re getting cold hard cash.

The Chase Freedom Unlimited offers the following:

1.5% cash back in all categories. This card will get you the 1.5% cash back by offering Chase Ultimate Rewards points that can be redeemed towards a statement credit.

The 1.5% cash back is quite high – especially considering that there is no annual fee.

If you’re one of the lucky people who has this card as well as a card in the Chase Ultimate Rewards family (such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve), then you are able to pool the points you earn from the Freedom Unlimited with your rewards credit card for redemption on all options available in the Chase Ultimate Rewards program.

The ability to combine Ultimate Rewards Point across all of your cards really pays dividends because this card actually has a higher earn rate on everyday spend than the Chase Sapphire Reserve that has an annual fee of $450 a year!

Additional Benefits and Features

What else does the Chase Freedom Unlimited get you?

In addition to cash back, the Chase Freedom Unlimited offers some basic benefits. Since this card has no annual fee, we have no complaints about the level of additional perks.

Our favorite benefits include:

  • Purchase Protection. This benefit covers your purchases for 120 days against damage or theft. The limits for this coverage is $500 per claim and $50,000 per account.
  • Extended Warranty. This perk extends the manufacturer’s warranty by 12 months. The catch is that the manufacturer’s standard warranty has to be three years or less.
